Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a student of Self-Realization Fellowship to stay at Encinitas Retreat?
Due to the high interest in attending the Retreat and the limited accommodations available, the Encinitas Retreat is offered to Self-Realization Fellowship students only.
Are children under the age of 18 permitted to stay at the Retreat?
We certainly understand your wish to share time in this beautiful setting with your children. However, the retreat program and activities are not designed for children. It is for adults to have the opportunity to experience the benefits of practicing silence, having longer periods of meditation, and quiet time for spiritual study and reflection.
Is it possible to rent your facility for our organized group to host retreats?
Retreat facilities are not available for rent. The Retreat offers year-round personal retreat programs that focus on the teachings of Paramahamsa Yogananda and the spiritual work of Self-Realization Fellowship.
Why is there a suggested minimum donation for retreat accommodations?
Donations are used to offset the cost of operating and maintaining the Retreat. We strive to keep the donation as low as possible so that all who wish to attend may have the opportunity to benefit from a spiritual retreat. Even though the suggested amount does not fully cover our expenses, the generosity expressed through donations above the suggested minimum over the years, helps substantially to keep this sanctuary in good repair.
How do I donate for my retreat?
Please make your donation at the Retreat office upon check-in. The Encinitas Retreat accepts American Express, Visa, Master Card, cash, checks, traveler’s checks, or money order.
Can I come and go from the Encinitas Retreat for work or social activities during my stay?
The Encinitas Retreat offers a spiritual environment that encourages you to leave behind the responsibilities and socializing of everyday life. We kindly ask that you book a reservation only when you are able to disengage from other activities and responsibilities for the duration of your retreat stay. Besides the unique benefits to yourself, focusing solely on spiritual pursuits preserves the retreat environment for all who come.
How should I dress during my stay?
In keeping with the ideals of a spiritual community, please dress comfortably, but modestly and do not wear shorts or revealing attire inside the Retreat. Some types of footwear should be worn in public spaces, preferably soft-soled to help preserve the quiet atmosphere of the Retreat.
Please note if you have any health conditions which could require medical attention, the Retreat personnel are not trained or equipped to provide medical care. We recommend that international travelers have travel medical insurance.
Is there Wi-Fi in the Encinitas Retreat?
We do not have Wi-Fi in the Encinitas retreat, so the devotees are able to avoid distraction and allow themselves to fully immerse themselves in the teachings of our Guru. We encourage devotees to come on retreat when they have time to be free of outside responsibilities.
May I have my own private apartment?
At present, due to limited availability, we are unable to guarantee fully private apartments. However, each retreatant is provided with a private bedroom, even when staying in a shared two-bedroom apartment.
