Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a student of Self-Realization Fellowship to stay at Encinitas Retreat?
Due to the high interest in attending the retreat and the limited accommodations available at this time, the retreat is currently only able to be offered to Self-Realization Fellowship students.
Are children under the age of 18 permitted to stay at the Retreat?
We certainly understand your wish to share time in this beautiful setting with your children. However, the retreat program and activities are not designed for children. It is for adults to have the opportunity to experience the benefits of practicing silence, having longer periods of meditation, and quiet time for spiritual study and reflection.
Is it possible to rent your facility for our organized group to host retreats?
The retreat offers year-round personal retreat programs that are focused on the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and the spiritual work of Self-Realization Fellowship. For this reason, the retreat facilities are not available for rental.
Why is there a suggested minimum donation for retreat accommodations?
Our minimum suggested donation is used to offset the cost of operating and maintaining the retreat. We always strive to keep the donation as low as possible so that all who wish to attend may have the opportunity to benefit from a spiritual retreat. Even though the suggested amount does not fully cover our expenses, the generosity expressed through donations that have been given above the suggested minimum over the years, helps substantially to keep this sanctuary in good repair.
How do I donate for my retreat?
Donations for retreat accommodations may be made at the retreat office upon check-in. The Encinitas Retreat accepts Visa, American Express, Discover, Mastercard, cash, checks, traveler’s checks, or money order.
Can I come and go from the Retreat for work or social activities during my stay?
The Encinitas Retreat offers a spiritual environment that encourages you to leave behind responsibilities and socializing of everyday life. We kindly ask that you book a reservation only when you are able to disengage from other activities and responsibilities for the duration of your retreat stay. Besides the unique benefits to yourself, focusing solely on spiritual pursuits preserves the retreat environment for all who come.
How should I dress during my stay?
In keeping with the ideals of a spiritual community, we ask that retreatants dress comfortably, but modestly and that they not wear shorts or revealing attire inside the retreat. Some type of footwear should be worn in public spaces, preferably soft-soled to help preserve the quiet atmosphere of the retreat.
Please note if you have any health condition which could require medical attention, the retreat personnel are not trained or equipped to provide medical care. We recommend international travelers to have travel medical insurance.
